I remember the first time I was encouraged to go out on course. It was raining, I was the only girl and I was freezing. None of that mattered because by my side, I had the Junior Organiser of Belton Woods, Ken Claxon who gives so much of his time helping Junior Golfers. I have learnt a lot from Ken and aspire to help out, encourage and set a good example to young girls who want to play golf. In 2021 I enrolled, with my mum, on the England Golf Club Activators Course which taught me skills on how to support Club Coaches in delivering engaging and fun activities. I also completed the Golf Foundation Girls in Leadership Programme in 2022.
These came in really handy when moving to Kenwick Park where I helped our the Junior Organiser, Nik Fox, with the younger girl groups. I really enjoy helping and put myself forward whenever an opportunity arises. Here are some of the things I have helped with:
Girl Golf Rocks
Helping Nik Fox at Kenwick Park with the Girl Golf Rocks group.
Women in Golf Week
At the Lincolnshire Girls Get Together and Celebration event for the Women in Golf week, I was a leader for the younger girls. I had lots of girls voting for me to be their leader and Team Captain.
School PE Lessons
I was asked by my PE teacher to give a term of PE lessons to my peers in school. I met with Stacey McNicholas who helped me lesson plan and I delivered introductory golf lessons to my peers. Two have since taken up golf.
LGGS Par Three Challenge
Hosted by Kenwick Park, this event was aimed at younger girls played on the Par Three Course. I supported the LGGS and volunteered as a helper for the day.
LGGS Get Glowing
This was so much fun. Stacey McNicholas from the Lincolnshire Girls Golf Squad hosted a Night Glow Golf event at Elsham Golf Club. I helped out with one of the putting challenges.
Girls Order of Merit Division 2&3
In division 1 of the Lincolnshire Girls Order of Merit with Alison Johns at Woodhall Spa, we were encouraged to help with divisions 2 and 3. I put myself forward to help out.
